Case Law: Doctrine of Separate Legal Entity

Basically what this means is that a company is a separate entity from the owner(s)/board of directors. 

For example, if you would like to sue Sony's board of director, it is different from suing Sony itself. In the eyes of Law, Sony exist as another person and you can sue Sony itself
